The Negotiator ConferenceThe Negotiator Conference was held in association with ARLA, NAEA and NAVA and was supported by GMG Property Services, REAPIT and Homelet, with lunch kindly sponsored by Fully Furnished. The first session was a crisp overview of the residential property market from Jones Lang LaSalle’s Head of UK Research, Jon Neale. Providing food for thought for delegates, Jon showed some fairly terrifying graphs, facts and figures, mapping the property scene since the boom ended in 2008.

This was followed by ‘Growing your business – the lettings opportunity’. Kate Faulkner, MD, Designs on Property, grilled ARLA President Jane Ingram, Lettings Director at Savills, John Hards, MD, Countrywide Residential Lettings, Lucy Pendleton, MD, James Pendleton and Ed Phillips, Lettings Director, Foxtons, on creating a professional lettings division.

Broadcaster and property expert Sarah Walker was joined by Nick Byrne, MD, Waterside Properties, Sussanne Chambers, MD, HomeXperts and Matthew Pryke, CEO, Fine & Country for a discussion on franchising and strategic partnerships for new and established agents.

Kate and Sarah joined forces for a jaunty discussion on how to effectively engage with the media and consumers across all communication platforms, so that you become known as the local property expert.

Auctions for non auctioneers was another hot topic. David Sandeman, MD, Essential Information Group, discussed how agents can enter the auction market, with Guy Charrison, President, NAVA, Roger Lake, MD, Auction House, Toby Limbrick, MD, Network Auctions and Jamie Cooke, Director, iam-sold.

After a wonderful lunch, generously sponsored by Fully Furnished, there were more opportunities for delegates to visit the wide range of exhibition stands.

Giles Redmayne, Business Director at the leading brand consultancy Purpose, then took to the stage to get the point across about the importance of brand to agents. Delegates were left in no doubt that their ‘brand was their reputation’ and so much more than just a logo or a colour scheme.

The final presentations were by Ian Laverty, Director, Intelligent Mobile and Tracy Wood. Ian gave an insight to how to find out what your customers actually want from you and gave tips and guidance as to how to reach them.

Tracy Wood (née Falke) tackled one of the great questions of the modern corporate workplace – Social Media: soundbite of our times or rocket to success? Tracy, assisted by a host of superheroes on her screens, gave a whistle stop guide as to how to keep up with social media and spend less time and money on it.
