Harry has worked in the property industry since 1966. He became a Chartered Surveyor in 1969 and worked in private practice until joining Countrywide in 1986 as a main Board Director. He was appointed MD of Countrywide in 1988 - a position he held until 2007 when he became Non-Executive Chairman. Harry was also involved in the creation of Rightmove, which he Chaired from 2000 until 2005. Following Countrywide’s floatation in 2007, Harry continued to guide Countrywide’s future business direction in his role as Non-Executive Chairman.

Grenville Turner, Chief Executive of Countrywide, said, “Harry has led Countrywide through periods of enormous growth and unparalleled success in a number of key roles over the last 23 years.

“I have known Harry for over 10 years and worked with him for almost four years, during which time he has become a good friend and will remain an advisor to myself and the Board going forward. While Harry's business achievements are universally recognised, I would personally like to add that he should also be recognised for having built the open, honest and successful culture, which lies at heart of Countrywide.”

Harry will formally retire as Chairman at the end of this year but will continue to advise Countrywide in addition to his many other business and family interests.
